Tehran Film Festival 2026 Opens With Strong Line-up of Debut Films

The Tehran Film Festival 2026 opened its doors on Tuesday evening with a red-carpet ceremony at the historic City Cinema Hall. This year's focus is on debut and sophomore features, with programmers emphasising fresh voices and formally daring works.

The opening film, "Whispers Behind the Tunnel", follows a group of young musicians in southern Tehran who try to record an album in a single night. The film received a six-minute standing ovation and sparked enthusiastic discussions among critics about the current state of independent production in Iran.

Festival director Laleh Mansouri underlined in her speech that the new edition aims to build long‑term bridges between Tehran, Istanbul and European capitals through co‑production markets and intensive script labs.
